Eagle Mountain, UT Sign Regulations: Holiday Displays (2026)

Holiday and seasonal displays on residential private property are considered protected expression in Utah County and generally require no permit. Utah County Land Use Ordinance and Provo City Code §14.38 exempt temporary holiday decorations from most sign restrictions. Displays must still comply with general safety rules: no obstruction of public sidewalks, driveways, fire hydrants, or the clear-view triangle at intersections (typically 30 feet each leg). Electrical components must be outdoor-rated per the National Electrical Code adopted via Utah Code §15A-5, with GFCI-protected circuits for outdoor outlets. Inflatable decorations must be secured against Wasatch Front winds that can exceed 60 mph during canyon wind events. Display-related noise (animated displays, music) must comply with Provo's noise ordinance §9.06 (50 dBA residential at night) and Orem §12-8. Utah Fireworks Act §53-7-225 separately restricts fireworks-based displays to specific dates. HOAs may impose additional rules on duration and style under their CC&Rs, commonly requiring removal by mid-January.
