Lincoln permits temporary political signs in every zoning district without a permit. Under Section 27.69.100, non-illuminated temporary signs are allowed in all districts, and temporary noncommercial signs for political campaigns and civic activities are expressly permitted, with a ten-square-foot limit in residential districts.
Lincoln Municipal Code Section 27.69.100 (Non-illuminated Temporary Signs) allows temporary signs in all zoning districts without a permit, provided sign area stays within the district limits: ten square feet in residential districts, and forty square feet and six feet in height in nonresidential districts. Subsection (c) expressly permits temporary noncommercial signs in connection with political campaigns, nonprofit civic activities, and other noncommercial activities. Lincoln's sign code also lets any sign carry a noncommercial message, including political, religious, charitable, or ideological content. There is no set number of days for residential political signs. These rules apply within Lincoln; unincorporated acreages follow the Lancaster County Zoning Resolution.
A political sign exceeding the residential ten-square-foot limit, or placed in the public right-of-way, may be removed; sign enforcement is handled by Lincoln Building and Safety.
