Oklahoma County follows IRC Appendix G requiring 48-inch pool barriers with self-closing, self-latching gates. Latch 54+ inches high. Enforced across OKC, Edmond, and all county cities.
Oklahoma County cities all adopt IRC Appendix G pool barrier requirements through the 2018 IRC. Oklahoma City Municipal Code Β§59-6550, Edmond Β§15-24, Midwest City, Del City, and unincorporated county require: 48-inch minimum barrier height; no gaps over 4 inches at bottom; no horizontal members under 45 inches on climbable sides; openings not passing a 4-inch sphere; self-closing, self-latching gates swinging away from the pool; gate latch minimum 54 inches above ground or on pool-side with 3-inch shielding. The house wall may serve as part of the barrier provided all doors leading to the pool have audible alarms (85 dB at 10 feet) or self-closing, self-latching mechanisms. Window locks required on pool-side windows. Above-ground pools with removable ladders may qualify their pool wall as barrier. HOAs in Gaillardia and Oak Tree sometimes require 60-inch barriers. Pool covers meeting ASTM F1346 supplement but do not replace barriers.
Non-compliant barrier: immediate correction order. Fines $100 to $500 (OKC Β§59-9999). Significant drowning liability β Oklahoma wrongful-death settlements commonly $1M+.
