All pools and spas over 24 inches deep require a compliant barrier. The barrier must be at least 48 inches high measured from ground on the outside. Openings cannot allow passage of a 4-inch sphere. Chain-link mesh cannot exceed 1.25 inches. Gates must be self-closing and self-latching, open outward from pool, with release mechanism at least 54 inches above grade on pool side. Dwelling walls serving as a barrier require door alarms or power safety covers. Above-ground pool walls of 48 inches may serve as barrier with removable/lockable ladder.
