Salem requires pool barriers for in-ground pools per Oregon Building Code. Pool barriers are not exempt from building permits. Barriers must meet height and safety gate requirements.
Salem requires swimming pool barriers per the Oregon Residential Specialty Code. In-ground pools must be completely enclosed by a barrier at least 48 inches (4 feet) high. Gates must be self-closing and self-latching with latches positioned to prevent children from reaching them. Openings must not allow passage of a 4-inch sphere. Swimming pool barriers always require building permits in Salem β they are specifically excluded from the work-exempt-from-permit list. Doors providing direct access to the pool must have self-closing devices and alarms.
Non-compliant pool barriers fail inspections. Existing pools found non-compliant may receive orders to install proper barriers.
