Laredo pool safety rules adopt the federal Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act (VGB) anti-entrapment standards and IRC Appendix G. Public and commercial pools require lifeguards or posted No Lifeguard on Duty signage plus rescue equipment.
Residential Laredo pools must comply with barrier requirements, approved anti-entrapment drain covers (VGB compliant, ASME A112.19.8), and GFCI-protected electrical equipment. Public pools at apartment complexes, hotels, and HOAs are further regulated under Texas Health and Safety Code Chapter 341 and 25 TAC 265 requiring: daily chemical logs, certified pool operator (CPO), approved filtration, life rings and shepherd hooks within 100 feet of water, depth markings every 25 feet, and posted operating rules. Signage requirements include No Diving in shallow areas, CPR instructions, and emergency phone number. Diving boards require minimum 8 foot water depth. Pools must drain through VGB-compliant dual main drains or single unblockable drains to prevent suction entrapment.
Missing VGB drains or safety equipment is immediate grounds for closure order. Fines up to 2,000 dollars per day for life-safety violations.
