The Florida Residential Swimming Pool Safety Act (Fla. Stat. 515) requires every Venice pool, spa or hot tub to satisfy one of four safety options - barrier, cover, door alarm or self-latching door release - before passing final inspection under Ch. 88.
Sec. 515.27 specifies the four options: (1) a 48-inch perimeter barrier meeting Sec. 515.29 specifications; (2) an approved pool safety cover (ASTM F1346); (3) exit alarms on every door and window providing direct access; or (4) self-closing/latching devices on doors with the release at least 54 inches from the floor. Owners must elect a method at permit application and maintain it throughout the pool's life.
Non-compliance is a second-degree misdemeanor under Fla. Stat. 515.29 with up to 60 days jail, $500 fine and mandatory pool-safety education.
