Alaska Statute 11.76.100 prohibits the sale or transfer of tobacco, e-cigarettes, and nicotine products to anyone under 21. Anchorage retailers must check ID and post the Tobacco 21 sign at every point of sale.
Alaska aligned with the federal Tobacco 21 law (signed December 2019) and AS 11.76.100 makes it a misdemeanor to sell or furnish tobacco, vape, or other nicotine-delivery products to persons under 21. Anchorage retailers must verify photo ID for any buyer who appears under 30, post the state-issued warning sign, and complete employee training. Underage purchase or attempted purchase is also prohibited. The MOA Health Department conducts compliance checks and refers violations to the Alaska Department of Revenue Tax Division for enforcement. There is no military exemption; active-duty members under 21 are still covered.
Selling to a person under 21 can result in misdemeanor charges, fines up to $300 first offense escalating to $1,000-plus per repeated violation, and tobacco-endorsement license suspension under AS 43.50.
