Alaska raised the tobacco purchase age to 21 in 2019 via AS Β§11.76.100, aligning with federal Tobacco 21. Retailers selling cigarettes, cigars, smokeless, or e-cigarettes must obtain an Alaska Department of Revenue Tobacco Endorsement on their state business license and register with MOA. Display and signage rules require posting age-of-sale notices. Anchorage levies a per-pack excise that historically ranged $2.21β$2.65 per 20 cigarettes via AMC Title 12, on top of the Alaska state excise of $2.00. Compliance checks use underage decoys; a third strike within 24 months can suspend the endorsement.
Sale to a minor: $300 first offense, $600 second, $1,000 third for clerks; license suspension 20β45 days for owners. Operating without endorsement: misdemeanor under AS Β§43.50.105.
