Feeding moose, bears, wolves, coyotes, or foxes is illegal under 5 AAC 92.230. Anchorage also enforces bear-attractant rules under AMC Title 17 requiring secured trash and pet food. Local fines up to 10.
Alaska regulation 5 AAC 92.230 prohibits the intentional or negligent feeding of moose, bears, wolves, coyotes, and foxes statewide. In Anchorage, where urban wildlife corridors run through every neighborhood (Campbell Creek, Chester Creek, Ship Creek, Hillside, Far North Bicentennial Park), this rule is critical. The Municipality adds AMC Title 17 bear-attractant provisions requiring trash to be stored indoors or in bear-resistant containers until the morning of pickup, and prohibiting outdoor pet food, unsecured bird feeders April through October, and unprotected freezers. Alaska Department of Fish and Game Wildlife Troopers and APD share enforcement. Bird feeders for songbirds are allowed only in winter months when bears hibernate.
Local bear-attractant citation: $310. State wildlife feeding charge: misdemeanor up to $10,000 and/or 1 year. Repeat offenses escalate.
