Full Breakdown

Anchorage Municipal Code 9.30.030 lists the places drivers may not stop, stand, or park. Red painted curbs are on that list: no vehicle may stop immediately adjacent to one, except municipal transit buses and transit support vehicles at designated bus stops. The same section separately bans parking next to yellow painted curbs, so red and yellow carry different, code-defined meanings on Anchorage streets.

Violations & Fines

Vehicles stopped next to a red curb are subject to towing and citation under the municipality's general stopping, standing and parking enforcement provisions (AMC Title 9, Chapter 9.30).

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I stop briefly at a red curb in Anchorage to drop someone off?
No. AMC 9.30.030(A)(10) bars stopping, not just parking, immediately adjacent to a red painted curb, with only a transit-bus exception.
What's the difference between a red curb and a yellow curb in Anchorage?
Both are restricted under AMC 9.30.030, but red curbs bar stopping outright (limited transit exception) while yellow curbs restrict parking, listed as a separate subsection.
