Selma SMC 8-1-2 requires solid waste containers stored with close-fitting lids, placed curbside on collection day facing the street with lids closed and spaced apart for automated truck access.
Under Selma Municipal Code Section 8-1-2, all solid waste must be kept in suitable containers with close-fitting lids that remain closed at all times except when depositing or removing waste. On collection day, residents must place their gray, blue, and green carts at the curb by 6:00 AM facing the street so the lid opens toward the roadway. Carts must be spaced apart with clear access so the automated truck arm can pick up each cart without knocking over adjacent containers. Multi-family residences, apartment buildings, and mobile home parks must provide trash enclosures per SMC 8-1-12 to screen containers from public view. Commercial properties must also maintain trash enclosures that meet development standards. Carts should not be stored in public view on non-collection days and must be retrieved after service on the pickup day.
Leaving containers at the curb outside of collection times or failing to maintain proper storage may result in a code enforcement notice. Violations of container regulations are infractions with fines up to $100 for a first offense.
