Pearland requires replacement of removed protected trees at a two-to-one ratio with approved species, or a payment into the city tree trust when replanting is not feasible.
When a protected tree of 12 inches diameter or larger is approved for removal in Pearland, the city requires mitigation through replacement plantings. The standard ratio is two replacement trees for every protected tree removed, drawn from an approved species list maintained by the Urban Forester. If on-site replacement is not feasible, the applicant may contribute a fee per inch of removed tree into the city's Tree Trust fund, which supports planting elsewhere in Pearland. Replacement trees must be installed and maintained per city standards and inspected by the Urban Forester.
Permit denial; fines for noncompliance; required restoration plantings; loss of certificate of occupancy until cured.
