Full Breakdown

Under Section 38-1426(2)c.14 of the Orange County Code, transient rental or leasing of an accessory dwelling unit, defined as a rental period of thirty (30) days or less, is prohibited in the unincorporated county, except as provided in Section 38-77 for the R-3 zoning district. This applies to both attached and detached ADUs permitted under the county's accessory dwelling unit rules.

Violations & Fines

Renting an ADU short-term outside R-3 zoning violates the county's accessory-structure use limits and can trigger code enforcement action against the property owner.
