Davie's Land Development Code has no separate dimensional 'carport' section; a carport is regulated as an accessory structure and as covered vehicle storage. It must stay subordinate to the home, one story, and a carport (with a garage) is an approved place to screen certain commercial vehicles and personal trailers from public view.
The Town of Davie Land Development Code (Chapter 12) treats a carport as an accessory structure subject to the general rules of Sec. 12-33(A): it must be subordinate to and serve the principal dwelling, be on the same lot, and, under Sec. 12-33(A)(2)(c), non-agricultural accessory buildings in residential districts are limited to one story not exceeding the height of the principal building. Carports appear explicitly in Sec. 12-33(G), which governs vehicles in residential districts: a Class 2 commercial vehicle used by a resident may be parked only if 'completely concealed from public view' and 'parked within a garage, carport, the rear yard or side yard,' and Sec. 12-33(G)(7) lets personal/recreational trailers be parked 'within a carport or garage' (or a screened side/rear yard). Yard setbacks for an attached carport follow the principal-building setbacks for the district; a detached carport follows the accessory-structure setbacks in the Sec. 12-88(C) table. Any new carport requires a Florida Building Code permit (wind-load rated) through the Davie Building Division. Confirm setbacks for your zoning district with Davie Planning & Zoning (954-797-1103).
A carport exceeding one story or the height of the home, encroaching into a required yard, or built without a permit violates the Land Development Code and Chapter 5/Florida Building Code. Using a carport to store a prohibited or oversized commercial vehicle in public view violates Sec. 12-33(G).
