In the Town of Davie, residential fences and walls may not exceed 6 feet along a plot line, or 8 feet where the line abuts non-residentially zoned property, under Land Development Code Sec. 12-33(O)(1). Near street-corner intersections an opaque fence is capped at 2 feet. Rural Lifestyle (AG, A-1, R-1) lots follow stricter limits in Sec. 12-287.
Davie's general fence-height rule appears in Chapter 12 (Land Development Code), Sec. 12-33(O). Subsection (1) provides that, except as noted for sight triangles, no fence or wall along a plot line of residentially zoned property may exceed six (6) feet, and that where the plot line is adjacent to a nonresidentially zoned property the limit is eight (8) feet. Subsection (2) caps fences on non-residential property abutting residential land at eight (8) feet. Subsection (3) limits any opaque fence, wall or hedge to two (2) feet above street grade within twenty-five (25) feet of a street-line intersection (the corner-visibility rule). Subsection (4) states fence height is measured from the finished grade of the property where the fence is installed. The Building Division's own handout notes wood and chain-link fences not over 6 feet have prescribed post sizes (FBC 2328.2/2328.3, 2224.2). Properties zoned AG, A-1 or R-1 (the Rural Lifestyle area) instead follow Sec. 12-287, which limits fences to 4 feet in a front yard or any yard facing a right-of-way and 6 feet elsewhere. Exact limits and corner rules vary by zoning district, so confirm your district with Planning & Zoning before building.
Fence height is reviewed at permit submittal by Planning & Zoning. A fence built over the allowed height, or inside a 25-foot corner sight triangle, can be denied a permit or cited by Code Compliance, with daily penalties until corrected or removed. Building Division: 954-797-1111.
