Davie does not name leaf blowers specifically, but Sec. 15-7(15) bans operating lawn mowers, edgers, trimmers and power-driven hedge shears between 8:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. Powered yard tools used outdoors in residential areas are also restricted 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. under the domestic power tools rule, Sec. 15-7(10).
The Town of Davie's noise code does not list 'leaf blowers' by name, but lawn and garden equipment is covered by two provisions of Section 15-7. Sec. 15-7(15), titled Lawn maintenance devices, makes it unlawful to operate knocker-type lawn sprinklers, lawn mowers, edgers, trimmers and power-driven hedge shears in the Town of Davie between 8:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. the following day. In addition, Sec. 15-7(10), Domestic power tools, makes it unlawful to operate any mechanically powered saw, sander, drill, grinder, lawn or garden tool, or similar device used outdoors in residential areas between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. the following day so as to cause a noise disturbance across a residential real property boundary. A gas or electric leaf blower is a powered lawn or garden tool and would fall under these provisions. Outside the restricted overnight hours, such equipment is also subject to the general residential sound limits in Sec. 15-4 (55 dBA daytime / 50 dBA nighttime at the receiving boundary). There is no exemption in Chapter 15 that broadly excuses lawn equipment, so daytime use should remain within general limits and overnight use is prohibited.
Lawn equipment noise complaints go to Davie Code Compliance at 954-693-8237 and are enforced through the Special Magistrate under Chapter 6 and Florida Statutes Chapter 162. After a notice and compliance deadline, continued violations can result in fines of up to $1,000 per day, and up to $5,000 per day for repeat violations.
