Fort Lauderdale regulates leaf blower and landscaping equipment noise through Chapter 17 construction and equipment hours. Power equipment operation is restricted to 8 AM-7 PM Monday-Saturday and 10 AM-7 PM on Sundays in residential areas.
Fort Lauderdale's Chapter 17 Noise Control ordinance regulates power equipment including leaf blowers through the construction equipment hour restrictions in Section 17-7. Powered landscaping equipment including gas and electric leaf blowers may not be operated before 8 AM or after 7 PM Monday through Saturday, and before 10 AM or after 7 PM on Sundays in residential areas. All equipment must use standard mufflers and noise-reducing equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications. Fort Lauderdale has not enacted a ban on gas-powered leaf blowers, unlike some other Florida municipalities. Commercial landscaping crews must comply with the same hour restrictions.
Violations of equipment hour restrictions are enforced by the Fort Lauderdale Police Department and Code Enforcement. Complaints can be filed at 954-828-5207 or through the Neighbor Support Center at 954-828-8000.
