Brick Township regulates the keeping and housing of animals by class. Beekeeping (Class V animals) is limited to no more than 25 animals per property, kept in a covered enclosure within zoning setback lines, with size approved by the Animal Control Officer.
Chapter 104 (Keeping and Housing of Certain Classes of Animals) classifies animals by type. Class V animals (which includes bees) may be kept with no more than 25 animals, contained in a covered enclosure within all zoning setback lines for accessory uses, with the size adequate for the number of animals as approved by the Township Animal Control Officer. At the state level, beekeepers must register hives with the NJ State Apiarist under N.J.S.A. 4:6-9 et seq. Hives must be in movable frame configuration and inspected annually.
Exceeding the 25-animal limit or failing to meet enclosure requirements violates Chapter 104. General penalties up to $2,000.
