Lake County does not ban any dog breed. Florida law (FS 767.14) prohibits local dangerous-dog regulations that are specific to breed, weight, or size. Lake County classifies dogs as dangerous or aggressive based on behavior, not breed, under Code Article III.
Under FS 767.14, counties may enact dangerous-dog rules stronger than state law only if no regulation is specific to breed, weight, or size, and if procedural due-process rights are preserved. Lake County follows this: Sec. 4-56 classifies a dog as dangerous or aggressive based on its conduct, such as unprovoked bites, attacks, or severe injury, never its breed. There is no pit bull ban or other breed ban in Lake County or its cities under this statewide preemption.
Owners of behavior-classified dangerous dogs face registration, enclosure, muzzling, and sterilization duties under Sec. 4-57; violations carry fines up to $500.
