Tuolumne County does not impose breed-specific legislation. No dog breeds are banned. Individual dogs may be declared vicious or dangerous under Chapter 6.04 based on their behavior, regardless of breed.
Chapter 6.04 addresses vicious and dangerous animals based on individual behavior, not breed. A vicious animal is defined as one that attacks or bites without provocation (excluding dogs assisting law enforcement). Vicious behavior determinations are made by Animal Control. California has no statewide breed-specific legislation. The county limit is four dogs or any combination of six dogs and cats (with no more than four dogs) per parcel.
Breed-based ordinances are void under state law. Dangerous dog violations based on behavior: fines, containment requirements, possible euthanasia for severe attacks.
