Anne Arundel County Code Article 18-11-117 regulates poultry and livestock by zoning district. Chickens (hens) permitted by right in RA and RLD (Rural Low Density) zones. In R1 and R2 residential zones, up to 6 hens allowed on lots of 40,000 sq ft (approximately 1 acre) or larger with 25-ft coop setback. Roosters prohibited in all residential zones. Larger livestock (goats, sheep) require 2+ acres in RA zone. City of Annapolis prohibits livestock within city limits. Critical Area properties face additional manure management requirements. County Animal Control enforces; health complaints to Anne Arundel County Department of Health.
