In unincorporated Collier County, dogs may not run at large on any public street, sidewalk, public place, or another person's property. Animals must be confined to the owner's property or under control on a leash. Outdoor tethering is tightly restricted.
Collier County Code sec. 14-35 makes it unlawful for an owner to allow an animal to run at large on public roads, sidewalks, or private property without the property owner's consent, or to chase vehicles or threaten people using a right-of-way. Sec. 14-36(10) makes it unlawful to tether a dog outdoors unless the dog is in visual range of a responsible party who is outside with it, the tether is at least five times the dog's body length with swivels, the dog is over six months old, and not left out in extreme weather. Enforcement is by Collier County Domestic Animal Services.
Civil citation under Collier County Code ch. 14; fines are set by Board of County Commissioners resolution and escalate for repeat offenders. Dogs running at large may be impounded.
