Georgia Code Β§27-5-4 prohibits private possession of Class 1 wild animals (lions, tigers, bears, primates, venomous snakes, alligators, etc.) without a Georgia DNR permit. DeKalb County Animal Services (404-294-2996) handles exotic animal complaints. Residents with questions about specific exotic species should contact Animal Services or the Georgia DNR Wildlife Division. Non-classified exotic species may be allowed subject to local zoning standards.
