Texas Parks and Wildlife Code 62.0125 restricts feeding of free-ranging deer in CWD-monitored counties. Collin County is not currently a CWD containment zone. Feeding deer on private land is legal, but baiting for hunting has seasonal rules. Feeding coyotes and feral hogs strongly discouraged.
As of the 2025β26 season, Collin County is not included in Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) Containment or Surveillance Zones, so non-hunting supplemental feeding of white-tailed deer on private property is permitted. TX Parks & Wildlife Code Β§62.0125 (the 'Sandy' law) only criminalizes feeding in designated CWD zones. Hunters must still observe TX PWC Β§62.015 baiting rules (no baiting on public lands; private-land baiting legal outside CWD zones). Feral hogs can be hunted year-round without bag limit under TPWD regulations and trapped under TX Ag Code Β§142.019. TX HSC Β§822.101 prohibits keeping or feeding wild carnivores (coyotes, bobcats) as pets. Collin County's rapidly urbanizing tracts along SH-121 and US-380 have seen rising coyote-human conflict; TPWD urges residents not to feed. No county ordinance adds local restrictions.
CWD zone feeding violation: Class C Parks & Wildlife misdemeanor, $25β$500 fine. Illegal possession of protected wildlife: up to $500 per animal.
