Nassau County Code 71 prohibits feeding of wildlife in county parks and preserves. NY ECL prohibits feeding deer and bear statewide. Feeding stray cats is generally allowed under TNR protocols registered with the town.
NY ECL 11-0505 bans deer feeding and ECL 11-0506 bans bear feeding statewide (max 250 dollar fine). Nassau County Parks prohibit feeding any wildlife including waterfowl at Massapequa Preserve, Eisenhower Park ponds, and Hempstead Lake State Park (state park). Town and village codes often prohibit feeding that attracts rodents or creates a nuisance. TNR programs (Trap-Neuter-Return) for community cats are recognized by most Nassau municipalities when run through registered rescues.
State deer-feeding fine up to 250 dollars. County park violations 50 to 500 dollars plus possible ejection.
