Okaloosa County, FL Building Safety: Childcare Center Rules (2026)

Sec. 10-24 of the Okaloosa County Code of Ordinances sets the fire fee schedule under the Florida Fire Prevention Code adopted at Sec. 10-23. Subsection (a) obligates every resident, property owner, entrepreneur, contractor or builder subject to the code to allow access to their property at reasonable hours so the authority having jurisdiction can perform required fire inspections during construction or occupancy; the only carve-out is for one- and two-family detached dwellings, which are inspected for a fee only if the owner requests it. ' A facility housing fewer than five people is billed as a small facility: $40 for the inspection and $35 if a reinspection is needed after a failed visit.

A facility with six or more people is billed as a large facility: $60 for the inspection and $50 for a reinspection. In south Okaloosa County the Growth Management Department administers plan review and permitting; in north Okaloosa County the chief fire inspector is the authority having jurisdiction, reviewing plans and inspections for the North Okaloosa County Fire Districts before the growth management department issues the permit. The fee schedule was adopted by Ord. No. 07-38, effective July 10, 2007, and sits inside the same ordinance that created the county's Fire Code Advisory Board (Sec. 73, Florida Statutes, serves as the appeals authority for fire code decisions.
