Bernalillo County, NM Building Safety: Elevator Maintenance (2026)

Bernalillo County's Uniform Administrative Code, adopted in Chapter 10 to govern construction and building service equipment countywide, singles out elevators among the required-inspection categories: while the CBO's own inspectors handle foundation, framing, electrical and plumbing inspections, elevator inspections must instead be obtained from an approved third-party testing agency. The same administrative code separately counts elevators, along with fire-extinguishing systems and other permanent equipment, toward the total construction value used to set building permit fees. This applies only to unincorporated parts of the county; Albuquerque, which holds most of the county's population, enforces its own construction codes and elevator inspection process.
