4 of the amended California Building Code Appendix C (Group U, Agricultural Buildings), requires that special inspections and tests of the structural elements and components of a Group U agricultural building meet the applicable requirements of Section 1705 of the 2025 California Building Code, Part 2, Volume 2. 040(A) limits Appendix C's scope to private agricultural use, classifying milking barns, poultry buildings, private stables, and similar structures as U-3, and livestock shelters, storage buildings, and horticultural structures as U-4. 1, Exception 3, making the special-inspection requirement in subsection D one of the few structural checks these otherwise lightly-regulated buildings must still pass. 020(B); an agricultural building owner cannot avoid the special-inspection step simply because the structure otherwise qualifies for the relaxed U-3/U-4 area and seismic rules.
