Weber County, UT Building Safety: Building Inspections (2026)

Weber County adopts the state's International Building Codes by reference (Section 12-3-1) and enforces them through the building official's office under Chapter 12-3. Section 12-3-8, Building Inspection Fees, lays out the inspection-stage costs that ride alongside the base permit fee schedule in Section 12-3-6: a $150 electrical inspection fee (not counting solar), $100 for plumbing, $100 for mechanical, and a one percent state surcharge on the building permit fee excluding plan review. Plan review itself runs 35 percent of the permit fee for a single-family dwelling and 65 percent for commercial work.

The section also sets the mechanics of re-checking work. A reinspection, needed when a scheduled inspection fails or the site is not ready, costs $115. An after-hours inspection, which the property owner or contractor must request and the county building official must approve, costs $125 an hour. If a permit goes more than 180 days without an inspection, the county charges a $100-per-year permit update fee, capped at $500, unless the applicant can document ongoing construction progress during that gap. Work started before a permit was pulled draws an additional fee equal to the full permit fee, on top of the permit itself.

Section 12-3-3, Occupancy Violations, ties inspection to occupancy: using or occupying a building before final approved inspection lets the building official file a notice of noncompliance against the property with the county recorder, which stays on record until the violation is corrected and the building official issues a release under Section 12-3-4, at the owner's expense.
