Summary
Yolo County charges a re-inspection fee any time a building inspector shows up and the work isn't ready or corrections from a prior visit are still outstanding. The Chief Building Official won't send an inspector back out until that fee is paid, so scheduling inspections before the job is actually ready costs real money.
Section 109.7 Re-inspections. A re-inspection fee may be assessed for each inspection or re-inspection when such portion of work for which inspection is scheduled and is not complete or when corrections called for previously are not complete. This section is not to be interpreted as requiring re-inspection fees the first time a job is rejected for failure to comply with the requirements of this code, but as controlling the practice of calling for inspections before the job is ready for such inspection or reinspection. To obtain a re-inspection, the applicant shall call and schedule a re-inspection and pay the re-inspection fee set forth in the current fee schedule as adopted by the Board of Supervisors. In instances where re-inspection fees have been assessed, no additional inspection of the work will be performed until the required fees have been paid.
Official source re-checked September 7, 2026: no newer edition of the code had been published (publisher’s edition: 2026 S-21: Supplement 2026 S-21 includes: Local legislation current through Ord. 1584, effective June 25, 2026).
Full Breakdown
Yolo County Code Sec. 8 (Plan review fees), both administered by the Chief Building Official. 7, a re-inspection fee attaches to any inspection where the scheduled portion of work is not complete, or where corrections called for on a prior visit have not been made. The code is explicit that this is not a penalty for a first-time rejection over a code violation, but a control on the practice of calling for an inspection before the job is genuinely ready. To get a re-inspection scheduled, the applicant must call the Building Division, schedule the visit, and pay the re-inspection fee set in the current fee schedule adopted by the Board of Supervisors.
Once a re-inspection fee has been assessed, the County will not perform any further inspection of the work until the outstanding fee is paid in full, which can stall a project's next phase of construction. 8 layers on a separate plan review fee, charged as a percentage of the building permit fee when submittal documents are required for review; this fee is billed at submittal and is in addition to, not a credit against, the permit fee itself. 1, the County charges an additional plan review fee at the rate in the current fee schedule. 1 imposes an investigation fee, equal to the permit fee, on work started without a permit before a permit can be issued.
Violations & Fines
Failing to pay an assessed re-inspection fee halts further County inspection of that work entirely; the project cannot progress to its next inspection stage until the fee clears. Starting work without a permit triggers a separate investigation fee under Section 109.4.1 equal to the permit fee, on top of the permit itself. Occupancy contrary to code can bring a discontinuance order under Section 111.5.
