Weber County, UT Business Licensing & Operations: Auto Repair on Residential Property (2026)

Section 108-13-2 of the Land Use Code lists the uses that can never qualify as a home occupation, no matter the zone or permit application: tanning salons, body piercing/body art/tattoo parlors, a clinic or hospital, a veterinary facility, a restaurant, "Auto, truck, or recreational vehicle repair or sales," an ambulance service, and a sexually oriented business. Because this sits in the prohibited-uses list rather than the standards list, no land use permit, site plan, or business license application can cure it: the use is categorically ineligible for home-occupation status.

The same chapter's home occupation parking rules reinforce the intent, separately barring the storage or parking of tractor trailers, semi-trucks, or other heavy equipment used for an off-premises business at a residence, with a narrow exception for one 14,000-pound-or-less truck parked overnight and one work trailer up to 22 feet. A resident who wants to run a vehicle repair or sales operation must instead locate it on a commercially or industrially zoned property under Weber County's Title 104 zoning scheme, which governs the county's Commercial (C-1 to C-3), Manufacturing (M-T, M-1 to M-3), and related nonresidential districts.

The unincorporated-area limitation applies here too: this county code reaches only unincorporated Weber County, not Ogden, Roy, or the county's other incorporated cities, which set their own home occupation and auto repair rules.
