Full Breakdown

The ULDC treats a home-based repair shop as a Home-based Business, permitted by right but barred from 'the sale of any stock, trade, supplies, products, or services on the premises', customers dropping off cars for paid repair work violates that on-site rule (Art. 4.B.1.E.11.h). Even incidental wrenching is constrained: commercial vehicles must be registered to the business or a resident, parked off the right-of-way and unimproved ground, with no loading, unloading, or refrigeration-unit operation between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Most residential lots allow one commercial vehicle and trailer up to Class 3/12,500 lbs GVWR; AR/RSA allows two, up to Class 4/16,000 lbs. This governs unincorporated areas only, Boca Raton and Delray Beach set their own rules.

Violations & Fines

Operating a customer-facing repair business at home without meeting these standards draws a Zoning Division warning and code enforcement citation; continued violations escalate to the county's Code Enforcement Board with daily fines until compliance.

Not for customer-facing repair work. The ULDC bars Home-based Businesses from selling services on the premises, and customers dropping cars off for repair violates that on-site rule.

What's the maximum GVWR for a vehicle parked at a home business?
Up to Class 3 (12,500 lbs) on most residential lots, with trailers to 10,000 lbs. The AR/RSA district allows Class 4 up to 16,000 lbs.
