Sumter County does not license home auto repair as its own use; it is regulated as a home-based business under Sec. 13-513, and its screening, noise and parking limits fall hardest on a use like vehicle repair. Any storage of equipment, parts or materials connected to the business must be inside a fully enclosed building, or behind a durable, 100 percent opaque enclosure tall enough to completely screen what is stored, and that screening must stay in good repair and appearance at all times; only equipment tied to an exempt agricultural operation on agriculturally zoned land escapes this rule.

Every tool, piece of equipment and process used to run the repair operation, including compressors, lifts and welders, must be maintained in proper working order specifically to minimize noise, fumes, dust, odor, vibration, glare or electrical interference reaching the neighborhood. The home still has to satisfy the ordinary off-street parking requirement that applies to the residence, and the repair business itself is capped at two additional dedicated parking spaces, which limits how many customer or work vehicles can sit on the property at once. If the repair work happens entirely inside a fully enclosed garage or shop building, the property only has to observe the normal setbacks of its zoning district; there is no separate license or use permit created for this activity beyond the Sec. 13-513 accessory-use standards.
