Prince George's County, MD Cannabis Regulations: Dispensary Zoning (2026)

Section 27-5102(e)(9)(C) of Subtitle 27, the Zoning Ordinance, sets the siting standards for a Cannabis Dispensary, the storefront use that sells cannabis and cannabis products to qualifying patients, caregivers, or adults 21 and older. The property boundary has to sit at least 100 feet from any property in a Residential Base or Planned Development Zone, including a Residential Comprehensive Design Zone carried over from the prior Ordinance. It also has to stay at least 500 feet from any pre-existing primary or secondary school, licensed childcare center, or registered family childcare home in Maryland, and from any playground, recreation center, library, or public park.

On top of both of those buffers, a dispensary must be at least 1,000 feet from another Cannabis dispensary or Cannabis micro-dispensary, which functionally caps how many storefronts can operate close together anywhere in the County. A dispensary cannot be established as an accessory use, must meet the Ordinance's minimum parking requirements under Section 27-6305, and can only offer one freestanding or pylon sign in addition to building-mounted signage, subject to the same height, size, illumination, and placement limits as other retail uses in the zone.

A holder of a special exception for a Medical cannabis dispensary can convert to operate as a Cannabis dispensary under that same approval without seeking a new special exception, once the State license itself has been converted to allow both medical and adult-use sales.
