Seattle accepts code violation reports through the Seattle Department of Construction and Inspections (SDCI) by phone at (206) 615-0808, online via the Seattle Services Portal, or by mail. The Find It Fix It app handles city infrastructure issues but not building code complaints.
Seattle's Department of Construction and Inspections (SDCI) Code Compliance division investigates complaints about building code violations, housing standards, land use, shoreline violations, and zoning infractions. Reports can be filed by calling (206) 615-0808 during business hours (Mon/Wed/Fri 9am-3pm, Tue/Thu 10:30am-3pm), through the Seattle Services Portal at cosaccela.seattle.gov, or by mailing Seattle Department of Construction and Inspections, Code Compliance, 700 Fifth Ave Suite 2000, PO Box 34019, Seattle WA 98124-4019. The Find It Fix It app is used for reporting city infrastructure issues like potholes and graffiti, but building and property code complaints go through SDCI directly. SDCI housing and zoning inspectors respond to complaints about minimum housing standards, land use violations, vacant buildings, lockouts, rent increases without proper notice, and landlord retaliation. Complaints can be filed anonymously. After filing, SDCI assigns the complaint and an inspector is dispatched to the property.
No penalty for reporting. SDCI issues Notices of Violation (NOV) if a violation is confirmed after inspection.
