Richland County requires no tree-removal permit for a homeowner on an exempt single-family lot. On development sites, the Land Development Code requires an approved tree protection and replacement plan before any protected trees are removed, with strict replacement ratios.
Richland County LDC Β§ 26-176(k)(2)
Grand trees that have been approved for removal shall be replaced at a ratio of 6:1, with trees at a minimum of two (2) inch caliper to a maximum of three (3) inch caliper. All other protected trees that have been approved for removal shall be replaced at a ratio of 3:1.
