Summary
Prince George's County Code Sec. 14-102 bars anyone under 17 from being in a public place from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. on weeknights, extended to 11:59 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Sec. 14-102. - Curfew for Juveniles and Minors. (a)It shall be unlawful for any person under the age of seventeen (17) to be or remain in or upon a public place within the County during the period ending at 5:00 A.M. and beginning:(1)At 11:59 P.M. on Friday and Saturday nights; and(2)10:00 P.M. on all other nights.(b)The Police Chief is authorized to accept and approve applications to create zones in the County that have more restrictive curfew times than mandated herein this Division...(5)A proposal of the curfew hours for the curfew for the new curfew zone. Enforcement under Sec. 14-106 starts with an officer taking the minor's information and issuing a written warning on a first violation; a second violation or reasonable grounds of delinquent conduct authorizes taking the minor into custody and releasing them to a parent or the Department of Social Services.
Violations & Fines
Parental and operator penalties are civil violations under Subtitle 28, Division 3. A parent's first offense (occurring on the juvenile's second curfew violation) is $50, rising to $100 for a second offense and $250 for a third or later offense. A business operator's first offense fine is $100, rising to $250 for a second offense and $500 for a third or later offense. Parents who don't retrieve a detained minor within an hour also owe the County the hourly wage and benefit cost of the employee assigned to the child.
