Sparks Municipal Code 9.60.010 bars minors under 18 from public places during curfew hours: 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 12:01 a.m. to 5 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights. Violations are misdemeanors.
Section 9.60.010 defines a minor as anyone under 18 and prohibits remaining in a public place or business during curfew hours: 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 12:01 a.m. to 5 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Parents or guardians who knowingly permit or by insufficient control allow a violation, and businesses that let minors remain, also commit offenses. Defenses include being with a parent, running a parent's errand, employment, an emergency, a school, religious, or city-sponsored activity, First Amendment activity, or being on the sidewalk by one's own home. An officer must ask the minor's age and reason before citing.
Each day is a separate misdemeanor punishable by a fine up to $500. Parents who permit violations and businesses that let minors remain during curfew hours are also liable under Section 9.60.010.
