Chapter 11.12 (Curfew) prohibits minors under the age of 18 from remaining in any public place, street, park, or establishment within Takoma Park during curfew hours. Weeknight curfew (Sunday through Thursday) runs from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM. Weekend curfew (Friday and Saturday nights) runs from midnight to 5:00 AM. Exceptions are provided for minors accompanied by a parent or guardian, minors traveling directly to or from employment, minors engaged in a city-sponsored or school-sponsored activity, minors on an errand directed by a parent, and minors exercising First Amendment rights such as attending a protest or religious service. The Takoma Park Police Department enforces curfew. A minor found in violation is taken to the police station and released to a parent or guardian. Parents or guardians who knowingly allow a minor to violate curfew may also be cited.
First offense results in a warning to the minor and parent. Subsequent violations are municipal infractions with fines up to $250 for the parent or guardian. Minors may be referred to juvenile services for repeated violations.
