West Jordan enforces a clear-view triangle at corner lots and driveways. No fence, shrub, or structure over 3 feet within the sight triangle (typically 30 ft from intersection corner).
West Jordan Municipal Code Title 13 (Land Use) and Title 10 (Traffic) require an unobstructed clear-view triangle at all public street intersections and commonly at driveway approaches. The standard triangle measures 30 feet along each intersecting street curb line from the corner on typical residential streets, expanding to 40 or 50 feet at collector/arterial intersections (Redwood Road, 7800 South, Bangerter Highway frontage roads). Nothing over 3 feet in height may be located within the triangle, including solid fences, hedges, shrubs, landscape berms, signs, and parked vehicles. Tree trunks are permitted if the canopy is trimmed up to at least 8 feet clear so drivers can see underneath. The rule applies whether the lot is on a public street or a private subdivision street maintained by HOA. Violations are frequently flagged after seasonal overgrowth (spring/summer) and can result in citation if not voluntarily trimmed. The city sometimes provides warning letters before escalation. Utah MUTCD and AASHTO sight-distance standards inform these requirements.
Notice of violation with 10 to 14-day compliance window. Refusal to trim: administrative citation $100 to $250, with city authorization to enter and abate at owner's expense. Accidents attributable to sight-triangle violations may trigger civil liability.
