West Jordan, UT Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Vending Zones (2026)

City Code section 4-2V-3, adopted by Ordinance 17-29 on May 24, 2017, requires any mobile food business to obtain a business license from West Jordan's Business Licensing Division before operating, consistent with Utah Code Annotated section 11-55-101 et seq. Section 4-2V-3B then confines food truck vending on the public right-of-way to a specific list of zoning districts: PC, BR-P, C-G, C-M, SC-1, SC-2, SC-3, M-P, M-1, M-2, P-F, CC-C, CC-F, VLSFR, LSFR, MFR, HFR and MU. A truck parked or vending in any zone outside that list is not licensed to operate in the right-of-way there.

Section 4-2V-3C carves out an exception: the zone list does not apply to vending carts, mobile ice cream vendors, seasonal farm stands, or other temporary merchants separately authorized under Title 4 or other City ordinances, since those uses are licensed under different articles. Once inside a permitted zone, a truck must also follow the operating conditions in section 4-2V-8 (parking, right-of-way use, sidewalk passage) and the design rules in section 4-2V-9, including a ban on operating within the same block face as another mobile food vendor at the same time.

Section 4-2V-7 caps how long a truck can stay put: business activity must be temporary, not exceeding twelve (12) hours within any twenty four (24) hour period at one premises or location. Fees are set by the City's Uniform Fee Schedule under section 4-2V-6, and a reduced fee applies to operators who already hold a license from another political subdivision, covering only the City's cost of regulating the truck.
