West Jordan, UT Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Food Truck Permits (2026)

Section 4-2V-4, enacted by Ordinance 17-29 on May 24, 2017, requires an application to the City Business Licensing Division before a mobile food business begins operating. An operator without a current license from another Utah governmental agency must submit, among other items, the food truck's license plate number, a description of preparation methods and the intended menu, the anticipated volume of food to be prepared, and 'a valid copy of all necessary licenses or permits required by State or local Health and Transportation Authorities, including a valid Health Department food truck permit and a current approval of a political subdivision that the food truck being licensed has passed a fire safety inspection' (subsection A7).

Every applicant must also carry general liability insurance in an amount not less than the limits set in Utah Code Annotated section 63G-7-603, name the City as an additional insured, and keep a current certificate on file with the City Recorder; the insurer must give the City thirty (30) days' written notice before cancellation, and cancellation is grounds for license revocation (subsection A8). Operators who already hold a valid business license from another Utah political subdivision submit a shorter list under subsection B but still must provide the Health Department food truck permit and fire safety approval.

Section 4-2V-5 requires a separate license application and separate fee for each mobile food business vehicle, even when several vehicles operate under one company. Section 4-2V-6 ties issuance to payment of the fees in the City's Uniform Fee Schedule, and a reduced fee applies to operators already licensed elsewhere, sized only to recover the City's cost of regulating the truck.
