In unincorporated Jefferson County, no fence over 42 inches may sit within the required front setback of the zone district or within the County's Vision Clearance Triangle. Taller fences are allowed elsewhere on the lot subject to setback and sight-triangle standards.
The Zoning Resolution allows fences taller than 42 inches away from front setbacks and vision triangles. Section 2.J.4 requires such fences to be set back to the sidewalk edge (or 10 feet from the flowline where no sidewalk exists) along side-street and front frontages where the zone district permits it. A noise-barrier fence up to 8 feet may be built adjacent to arterial or higher-class road right-of-way. Fences on retaining walls count the combined wall-plus-fence height, which cannot exceed the zone district maximum.
Zoning enforcement can order removal or relocation of a noncompliant fence; violations of the Zoning Resolution are subject to county code-enforcement action and abatement.
