Coconino County, AZ Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

C of the Coconino County Zoning Ordinance sets the county's wall and fence height standards. In any required Front or Street Side Setback, an opaque or solid wall or fence cannot exceed 3 feet, while a non-opaque fence that is at least 50 percent transparent can go up to 6 feet in that same setback. Along the Interior Side or Rear Lot Line, a wall or solid fence can rise to 6 feet, measured from the Highest Adjacent Grade, as long as it does not extend into the Front or Street Side Setback; stacked firewood along a property line counts as a wall or fence for this height limit.

Near a driveway that provides vehicular access to an abutting lot, a wall or fence cannot exceed 3 feet within 15 feet of where that driveway meets the street right-of-way, preserving the sightline the Ordinance is protecting. Tires cannot be used to build a wall unless fully encapsulated to keep water out, and only with a Building Permit. 2. The Ordinance exempts any wall or fence that state law separately requires, and encourages wildlife-friendly fence designs, per Arizona Game and Fish Department guidelines, to keep migration corridors open.
