New Port Richey adopted strict fence regulations via Ordinance 2021-2224. Front yard fences are limited to 3 feet in height with posts no more than 1 foot above the top rail. Side and rear yard fences may be up to 6 feet, or 4 feet if adjacent to a roadway or river.
The city imposed a 180-day moratorium on front-yard fences in residential zones before adopting the current standards. Front-yard fences must use approved colors (black, white, metallic, stained wood, or neutral colors consistent with the home). The 3-foot front yard limit is among the most restrictive in Pasco County. Properties along the Pithlachascotee River face the 4-foot limit for fencing adjacent to the waterway.
Fences exceeding height limits receive a notice to comply with a 30-day correction deadline. Failure to comply carries fines of $50β$200 per day until the fence is brought into compliance.
