For properties in Jefferson County's Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI), fencing within 8 feet of a structure must be built with noncombustible or ignition-resistant materials such as metal, masonry, or tested plastics and composites. Details are in the Wildfire Resiliency Code, Chapter 5.
Because the foothills and mountain areas of unincorporated Jeffco are high wildfire-risk WUI, the fence handout requires fencing within 8 feet of a structure to be constructed of noncombustible or ignition-resistant building materials. Acceptable materials include, but are not limited to, metal, masonry, and plastics/composites that meet testing requirements. The full requirements are in the Jefferson County Wildfire Resiliency Code, Chapter 5. Outside the WUI, the Zoning Resolution does not restrict fence materials by type.
Combustible fencing attached to or within 8 feet of a structure in the WUI can be cited under the Wildfire Resiliency Code and ordered replaced with compliant materials.
