Hollywood FL restricts fence materials by zoning district under Section 155.12. Chain link is prohibited in RAC zones entirely and in front yard setbacks in TOC and Historic Districts. PVC is prohibited in front yard setbacks of Historic Districts. All fence installation requires a permit from the Building Division.
Section 155.12 of the Hollywood Code of Ordinances establishes fence material restrictions by zoning district. Chain link fencing is not permitted in Regional Activity Center (RAC) zones. In Transit Oriented Corridor (TOC) zones, chain link is not permitted in the front yard setback. In Historic Districts, both chain link and PVC (polyvinyl chloride) fencing are not permitted in the front yard setback. Acceptable materials generally include wood, vinyl (except where restricted), wrought iron, aluminum, concrete block, and masonry. Barbed wire, razor wire, and electric fencing are prohibited in residential zones. All fence installation, replacement, or major repair requires a permit from the Building Division. A fence submittal checklist is available from the city.
Installing prohibited materials is a code violation requiring removal or replacement at the owner's expense. Unpermitted fences face enforcement action.
