Sacramento County adopts California Health and Safety Code 115920 to 115929. Any new pool or spa over 18 inches deep must have an enclosure at least 60 inches (5 feet) high with self-closing, self-latching gates opening outward. Pools built or remodeled after 2018 must include at least 2 of 7 drowning-prevention features: isolation fence, pool cover, exit alarm, self-closing door to pool, floating alarm, removable mesh fence plus self-closing gate, or other approved safety feature. Vertical fence members must be less than 4 inches apart. County Building inspects before final pool approval.
Failure to obtain final inspection can void homeowners insurance and result in stop-use orders; fines up to 1,000 dollars.
