Horizontal members on the outside must be at least 45 inches apart or otherwise designed to prevent climbing. Gates must self-close and self-latch with the latch at least 54 inches above grade.
Building a pool without compliant barrier is a Building Code violation under SCC Title 16; the Pool Safety Act (SB 442) additionally requires two of seven listed drowning-prevention safety features at new pool construction or remodel.
